Medicare Supplement Plans

Medicare generally sells Original Medicare, which is Medicare Part A and part B. However, it allows private companies to cater for higher coverage, which will go alongside with the Original Medicare to see to it that the seniors are sufficiently covered. This means that a Medicare Supplement is only available through the private insurance companies to cover for those gaps left by Original Medicare.

It covers a list of ten expenses: Medicare Part A Deductible, Part A Copayment, and Part A hospice care. Apart from these, it also includes for Part B deductible costs on outpatient services, copayments under Medicare part B and excess charges,
Supplements plans are also able to cover for three pints of blood, which is over and above what is provided for by Original Medicare.

Besides this, it also covers emergency transport for medical care while in a foreign country. These benefits cover up to 80% of the costs incurred while abroad, and the maximum allowable limit is $50,000.

All these expenses are covered under Supplemental plans. We have only one plan, which is plan F, that covers the entire list mentioned above. It is also the most expensive plan in the list of the available plans, though it has been deregistered. Only the people who had registered for it before the delisting was done can continue renewing for the plan.

However, we have two other popular plans, which are plan G and plan N, which offers comprehensive coverage and at an affordable price. Plan G covers for all the Supplemental Plan expenses with an exemption of Part B deductible, which costs about $185 per annum. This cost can be paid from the pocket, and stand a chance of enjoying a full year of health coverage using plan B. It is a well-priced plan and valid for those seniors who require a high coverage plan.

We also have Plan N, which is an excellent choice for seniors and very similar to Plan G.

The difference is that one is expected to pay for Part B deductible, some minor copayments, and excess charges under Part B. However, if you compare from paying from your pocket, then the plan is worth considering and signing up for.

Medigap plan Changes

As mentioned, Medigap has eight distinct plans, and the new legislation has made new changes to how these will operate. Plan F and C have since been placed in a closed pool and delisted such no new sign-ups. However, people who had signed for the plans can continue using them, but no new enrollments are allowed.

We also do not expect to see any new changes in the lineup, except that the prices may change with time, making them uneconomical.

Plan G will also be expected to change slightly; for instance, there will be a new version of plan G, well known as High Deductible Medicare Supplement Plan G.

This means that if you sign for the new version, your deductible costs will be higher, but the premiums will be lower.

The prices of the new plans are not yet out, but you can check from our site for any new updates.

Medicare Advantage Plans

A Medicare Advantage Plan is a plan offered by Medicare and subcontracted to private insurance companies to work as an alternative for original Medicare. While original Medicare May not be sufficient to cater to your health costs. Advantage plans will provide for those benefits that would, in a way, supplement the Original Medicare.

Its main coverage is Medicare Parts A and part B, but it goes the extra mile to take charge of costs such as emergency care and the urgently needed healthcare services.
Besides these, Advantage plans offer extra coverage, such as the Medicare Part D drug coverage plans, either as an inbuilt plan or as a separate plan altogether. The main aim of Part D’s plan is to take care of the medications, which would cost a lot, being purchased from the pocket. Other benefits include annual checkups, hearing aids, vision aids, and many more.

It is, however, essential to note that Advantage plans are restricted to given network coverage. There is a list of hospitals and clinics that one can visit. Otherwise, you will be expected to pay for the extra coverage if you get outside the network for treatment.

There are two available plans, which are HMO and PPO, that are offered under Advantage Plans. HMO plans are entirely restricted to work within the network unless for emergency cases.

On the same note, PPO plans are a bit flexible and partially accept coverage out of the network. This, however, calls for an extra cost and is most convenient for those who live in areas where network coverage is a challenge. People who keep traveling for business purposes would also fit well in this coverage.
